Welcome to Altamaha Technical College. As we enter our third decade of service to the communities surrounding and prospering along the Altamaha River – Hazlehurst, Ga., south to where the River meets the Sea at both Kingsland and Brunswick – we are proud to help our students and business partners create their best life now.
Many of our students return to us from a previous career for retraining and new skills sets to benefit their next career challenge. Others turn to us for assistance with GED testing and training. In the coming years, 68% of the workforce will require more than a high school diploma and less than a four year degree. At Altamaha Technical College, we offer just that - with more than 80 associate degree, diploma and certificate programs to choose from.
Our 15 Adult Support Centers throughout our regional service area of Appling, Camden, Glynn, Jeff Davis, Long, McIntosh and Wayne counties helped more than 700 people earn their GED last year. And from those students, 46 percent of them went on to register for classes in our technical college programs – giving us one of the highest transition-to-college rates in the state.
We are committed to our customers – not only the student but the employers in the area. We offer excellent economic development opportunities to help employers hire the best employees for their needs. Through training programs, like the state-funded Quick Start, or through offering additional resources like OSHA and American Heart Association training and certification, ATC meets the needs of the businesses in its communities.
Our graduates enjoy a 98.6% job placement rate, and that number increased last year by more than a point, in a depressed economy! We know that people are anxious about their futures – especially in our current economic climate – but whether it is in the medical field, manufacturing, business, or the service sector – Altamaha Technical College programs position graduates for career success. Some programs are as short as six weeks, like the Commercial Truck Driving Certificate, or as long as two years as students pursue an associate degree. We offer flexible class scheduling through day, evening and even, online courses. Additionally, job placement and financial aid assistance are available – including the HOPE Grant and HOPE Scholarship.
As a Unit of the Technical College System of Georgia, we served nearly 13,000 people last year, whether through our credit enrollment, adult education, ESL classes and work force development services. We invite you to see if Altamaha Technical College is the best fit for you. We welcome you to your best future now.
