Altamaha Technical College receives donation from Satilla REMC

Satilla REMC Board of Director member Hinson Mosely and District Manager Mickey Whittington recently presented a $5000 check to the Altamaha Technical College Foundation, Inc.  The funds were a portion of the money received from the Satilla REMC Smart Change Program.  This voluntary program allows participants to round-up their power bills to the next dollar each month.  The tax deductible contributions are placed in the Satilla REMC Foundation to benefit worthy recipients in Satilla’s service area.

Mosley expressed appreciation to all the participants of the Smart Change Program and said that “without their support, funding for projects such as this would not be available.” Altamaha Technical College President Lorette M. Hoover also expressed her appreciation and went on to say how grateful she is for the continuous support from Satilla REMC.  In accepting the check, Hoover stated that the funds “will be used to support the success of our students, provide instructional equipment, and support various other projects that will improve the future of the college.”

On September 25th, the Altamaha Technical College Foundation, Inc. kicked off its internal Annual Giving Campaign for full-time employees.  The kick-off was held on a staff development day in conjunction with the charitable contribution meeting.  This year is the first year that technical colleges within the Technical College System of Georgia had the opportunity to be listed on the Georgia state charitable contribution listing.

Director of Institutional Advancement, Dana Worth, made a presentation to faculty and staff stating the importance of the Altamaha Technical College Foundation, Inc. and that the Foundation’s trustees had taken on the challenge of raising at least $250,000 this year.  Worth went on to explain that the funds would be used for the following projects: instructional equipment, new signage, truck wraps for the commercial truck driving program, professional development, scholarships and recognition.  Worth also expressed the importance of achieving a 100% contribution rate.   “This shows that we, the employees,  are committed to the college and this will make a significant impact when making a case for funding requests with grant applications and corporate sponsors,” stated Worth.

The deadline set for the campaign was November 21st; however, the goal of 100% was achieved a week early.  When President Hoover heard the news she was ecstatic.   “WOW! What an exciting accomplishment,” stated Hoover.  Hoover went on to say “I am so proud of everyone for making a heartfelt contribution to the college’s foundation.  We have a great group of employees that truly care about Altamaha Technical College and our future success!”   For more information about the Altamaha Technical College Foundation, Inc, please contact Dana Worth at 912-427-5835 or 800-645-8284.
