ATC Partners with Southern Company
Altamaha Technical College and Southern Company’s Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant (Plant Hatch), located near Baxley, are offering a technical certificate program for existing Plant Hatch employees who want to advance within the company. Plant Hatch is one of Georgia Power’s two nuclear facilities in Georgia and is one of three nuclear facilities in the Southern electric system. The Manufacturing Maintenance Fundamentals certificate prepares existing employees for the position of Nuclear Systems Operator In-Training, instructing them in areas such as Industrial Safety Procedures, DC/AC Circuits, and Industrial and Basic Mechanics. Located on ATC’s Baxley campus, the program takes approximately six months to complete and provides the flexibility of choosing an Electrical or Mechanical specialization. “This is a great opportunity for both ATC and Southern Company,” says Hank Hobbs from Altamaha Technical College. “This is what technical education is all about, partnering with companies to train people for sustainable careers. I think this is just the beginning of a great relationship, and I am really looking forward to what the future holds.”
