Level 1A Fundamentals -- Soil Erosion (8 hours)

WHO: 

Anyone involved in land development, design, review, permitting, construction, monitoring, inspection, or any land disturbing activity in Georgia must meet the new education requirements and be certified by the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission.  Commercial Contractors:  Building, Water Well, Septic Tank, Erosion Control, Landscaping, Forestry/Loggers, Electrical 

   
WHAT:  This program includes various levels of certification.  Level 1A Fundamentals is a one day course designed to train general/grading/utility contractors, building, developers, site superintendents, city/county maintenance crews, and monitoring consultants in the proper installation, maintenance, and inspection of Best Management Practices (BMPS) on construction sites.  Topics covered in the course are fundamentals of erosion and sediment control, the Georgia Erosion and Sedimentation Act (GESA), NPDES Permits, field maintenance, stream buffers, and vegetative and structural BMPs.  There are also Level 1B Advanced Fundamentals and Level 11 Introduction to Design classes available for those who need advanced training. 
   
WHY:  According to the House Bill 285 amendment to the Georgia Erosion and Sediment Control Act of 1975, anyone involved in land development, design, review, permitting, construction, monitoring, inspection, or any land disturbing activity in Georgia must meet the new educational requirements.  A compnay will need individuals certified by the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission if involved in land disturbance that could allow movement of soil onto public or state lands or waters.
