Altamaha Tech hosts SkillsUSA Competition
Altamaha Technical College hosted the Georgia SkillsUSA Region 8 competitions last week. Over 200 students from surrounding area high schools, such as Wayne County, Pierce County, Camden County, Appling County, and Glynn County came to compete in competitions such as Job Interview, Quiz Bowl, First Aid/CPR, Health Knowledge Bowl, Carpentry, Residential Wiring, Welding, Computer Maintenance, Collision Repair Technology, and many more.
SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization that promotes education in job-related skills. The event allows high school students to show off their many skills and abilities, and gives them a chance to earn scholarship money for college. The first and second place winners of regional competitions go on to state and possibly national competitions.
“It is amazing to watch these young men and women as they compete in these events. They are so enthusiastic and eager to learn as much as they can about their specific area. All of them are quite good,” exclaims Rod Lane, ATC Tech Prep Coordinator.
