ATC Board Members Baxley, Gainer, Hanner and Morris earn certifications at TCDA Leadership Conference
JESUP – Altamaha Technical College Board of Directors Jeff Baxley(Appling), Grant Gainer(Jeff Davis), Joel Hanner(Camden) and Randal Morris(Glynn and Camden) were recognized at the recent Technical College Directors Association (TCDA) Leadership Conference as certified board members. To earn the certification, Board Members have to attend workshops and participate in college and leadership activities. The required workshops, sponsored by TCDA include:
• New Member Orientation
• Governance of Technical Colleges
• Community Advocacy
• Building Relationships with Elected Officials
• Budgeting and Financial Management
Other activities leading to certification include visiting at least one class session at the local technical college, speaking to an outside group about the college, visiting a board meeting at another college, representing the technical college to the media and attending graduation among other elective activities. The mission of TCDA is to build the capability of the local boards of directors to effectively increase the real and perceived value of technical and adult education in Georgia.
Jeff Baxley, City Manager of Baxley, Georgia, has served on the board of directors since 2005. Grant Gainer, Owner of Gainer Brothers, Inc., Joel Hanner, area manager of Georgia Power, and Randal Morris, Public Affairs Manager of Georgia Pacific, were appointed in 2009. Mr. Morris is currently the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors.
With these recent designations, 100 percent of the board members at Altamaha Technical College are certified. Other certified board members at Altamaha Technical College include Ted Buford(Wayne) serving as Chair, Clifford Davis(Wayne), Lana Cooper(Wayne), and Linda Williamson(Wayne).
