Altamaha Technical College Holds Commencement

Altamaha Technical College conducted its Winter Commencement Ceremony January 28 at the Wayne County High School Auditorium.  The Auditorium was filled to capacity. 

The Honorable E. M. Wilkes, III, Superior Court Judge of the Brunswick Judicial Circuit was the key note speaker. As one of the founding fathers of Altamaha Technical College, Judge Wilkes shared an inspirational message of making a commitment to one’s work, one's employer or one’s entrepreneurial business; enjoying one’s career; and giving back to the community.  “The combination of these qualities," stated Judge Wilkes, "brings about a full quality of life each of you deserve.” 

Judge Wilkes shared congratulatory handshakes with the graduates as they walked across the stage.  He was joined on stage by the President of Altamaha Technical College Lorette Hoover, the Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. June McClain, and the Chair of the Board of Director’s Lana Cooper who presented the diplomas to the graduates. The college conferred 385 associate degrees, diplomas, and technical certificates of credit to graduates who have met the standards as set forth by the Technical College System of Georgia and acknowledged 262 graduates who have earned the GED representing citizens of 24 counties.  Graduates earned special awards including the President’s Medallion (perfect 4.0 GPA), honor graduate cords, recognition as members of the National Technical Honor Society, Student Leadership Council, and membership to student leadership clubs including Phi Beta Lambda and ATC Ambassadors.

Jodie Taylor, Business Office Technology graduate, provided an inspirational invocation and benediction and Mitzi Guzman, a Practical Nursing graduate, provided the Student’s Point of View. 

The Deans of the College, Walt Pinder, Patsy Wilkerson, Dr. Ron Shafer, and Sandra Williams, shared the responsibility of announcing graduate names and awarding graduates with a special gift unique to ATC graduates.

Students and Faculty in ATC's culinary arts program located at the Golden Isles and Hazlehurst campuses, provided an amazing spread of delectable delights at the reception for the graduates and their families following graduation.

Altamaha Technical College is honored to share our graduates who have dedicated their lives to strong academic work combined with high skills training and a sound understanding of work ethics.  President Hoover reminded the graduates, “We are proud of you and of your accomplishments, know we stand behind the education experiences of the classrooms, the labs, the clinical sites and the internships you participated in prior to walking across this stage. You are our alumnus – our family, and we guarantee that your education and skills are what employers need.”
