Altamaha Technical College moves to a four-day work week

The Technical College System of Georgia is no exception to the budget reductions facing all state agencies. As a part of the system, Altamaha Technical College has been looking for ways to prepare for the reduction in state funding.
One of the cost cutting measures the college is taking is to move to a four-day work week. Since the college is normally open late four days a week, the change to four, ten hour days for employees is expected to result in a savings on the high cost of utilities.

In an attempt to start trimming back, the Baxley and Hazlehurst campuses started the four-day work week back in July and have had no problems with the adjusted schedule. “Students are already on a four-day schedule,” stated college President Lorette M. Hoover.
The change in work schedule is not the only cost saving measure being taken by the college. “These are tough times and we are dealing with some very tough choices,” stated Hoover. “In an attempt to salvage jobs the college is looking at numerous ways to prepare for the budget cut. Fortunately, because of our conservative hiring practices for the past year, we will take advantage of eliminating positions that are vacant due to resignations/retirements.”
All Altamaha Technical College campuses will be on the four-day work week starting September 29th. Campus hours of operation will be as follows:
Jesup Campus:
Buildings open: 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. M - Th
