ATC Students and Faculty Unwind

As a way for the students faculty and staff to “unwind” and have some fun Altamaha Technical College holds an activity day each quarter.  Sponsored by the Statewide Student Leadership Counsel (SSLC), students and faculty enjoy entertainment, food, and prizes.  This quarter activity day was held on Valentines Day and consisted of fundraisers, a costume contest, awards, and lots of fun.

pie-in-the-faceThe entertainment for the day was the Pie in the Face Fundraiser held by ATC’s Practical Nursing Club.  For a week ATC employees and students placed $1 votes on who they most wanted to see get a pie in the face.  With 122 votes each, Instructor Kenny Taylor and Librarian Jessica Everingham earned the honor.  “Sometimes you just have to take one for the team” comments Everingham after receiving her whipped cream pie.  According to Taylor, “It was the most fun I ever had at activity day, and I was glad to help with the fundraiser.”

The Retro Theme Costume Contest encouraged students to dress up in retro-winnerstheir favorite style from their most loved decade, such as the 70’s and 80’s.  Prizes were awarded to the winners.  First place went to cosmetology student Danielle Smith, second place was awarded to practical nursing student Maggie Graham, and electronics student Brooke Arnold took third place.

Finally, as with every activity day, a student of the quarter was lisa-maddoxnamed.  The student of the quarter is someone who shows enthusiasm and commitment in everything they do, and is a good representative of the college.  Lisa Maddox, Business Office Technology student, received this honor. She was nominated by her instructor, Cathy Martin, who says, “Lisa has a very strong work ethic and always goes above and beyond what is required of her.”
