ATC Offers Certificate in...

With computer crimes becoming a major issue all over the nation, there is great demand for people with expertise in detecting and investigating computer-related criminal activity and/or unauthorized use.

Altamaha Technical College’s Jesup and Baxley campuses are now offering a new certificate called Computer Forensics and Investigation.  The program develops the knowledge and skills in conducting security investigations, examining a computer crime scene, collecting evidence, securing information, search and seizure, and the administration of criminal sanctions.

This job is listed in the category of one of "Tomorrow's Jobs" according to the Department of Labor Occupational Outlook Handbook.  It is also indicated as one of the "fastest growing" occupations and one of the careers projected to have the largest numerical increases in employment between 2004 and 2014, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.  An individual with this degree would be able to get a job in the field of computer-related criminal investigation and work for many companies including state and federal law enforcement agencies, consulting firms, accounting firms, financial institutions, law firms, and in private investigation.

The Computer Forensics and Investigative Specialist certificate is a selected combination of courses from ATC’s Computer Information Systems and Criminal Justice programs.  In this one-year certificate, students will learn knowledge and skill from both areas.
