Stephanie Hernandez to attend EAGLE Leadership Institute
Stephanie Hernandez
JESUP, Ga. – Stephanie Hernandez has been chosen to represent Altamaha Technical College at the EAGLE Leadership Institute February 13-15, 2012.
President Lorette Hoover said the Leadership Institute recognizes and honors those students who have demonstrated superior academic achievement in adult education classes and programs, and congratulates Hernandez on her recent selection.
Henandez is a single mother of three children, ages 15 to 8. She moved to Baxley from Leesburg, Ga., “to change my life, and it has changed completely.”
Hernandez earned her GED in October 2010 from the Academic Support Center at the Altamaha Technical College Baxley Campus. She is enrolled in the Criminal Justice Program and anticipates graduation in Spring 2012. She credits her teachers in Altamaha Technical College’s adult education program with her success.
“I have everything to thank for these two teachers – Shelia Hall and Elaine Moody – for helping me pursue my education,” said Hernandez. “I would not have changed if these two women had not entered my life, and now I’m almost finished with my first step of my new and wonderful career. They have helped me so much with education and Mrs. Shelia has continued to help me with my college classes and projects. I have this moment to tell her how much they mean to me and what they have both done to make my life better.”
Shelia Hall applauds Hernandez’ success and hard work and looks forward to great things from her pupil in the future.
“During the (two) years of our acquaintance, I found Stephanie to be an intelligent, capable, and personable young woman. She has an excellent rapport with people of all ages and races and demonstrates empathy and compassion for those less fortunate. She tries to do everything she can for her peers and her family.”
EAGLE is the first statewide program in the nation that recognizes and rewards excellence among students enrolled in adult education programs.
