Altamaha Technical College Hosts 9th Annual “GOSSIP and GRITS”

On October 7 and October 9, counselors and graduation coaches from Appling, Jeff Davis, Long and Wayne counties participated in Altamaha Technical College’s 9th Annual Gossip and Grits.  The October 7th meeting included representatives from Walker Middle School, Long County High School, Martha Puckett Middle School and Wayne County High School.  The October 9th meeting included representatives from Appling County Middle School, Appling County High School, Jeff Davis Middle School and Jeff Davis High School.

Each year counselors, graduation coaches, and ATC representatives get together for Gossip and Grits to discuss various issues, problems, and solutions regarding how best to prepare our students for life’s work.  This year President Lorette Hoover provided attendees with a message regarding the “State of Altamaha Technical College” and how important it is that we all work together to provide the best career opportunities available for our students and our communities.  Additionally, attendees were praised for their efforts in making dual enrollment opportunities for their students a priority.  This year, over 100 high school students are participating in various ATC programs throughout the four county service delivery area.

Counselors and graduation coaches also shared best practices, career day opportunities, and other areas of interest to both middle school and high school students.

Recognizing the importance of linking classroom learning to real world opportunities, each participant pledged their continued support to growing a highly skilled workforce.  This results in a hand-in-hand partnership between local high schools and Altamaha Technical College that ensures every student is prepared to build a rewarding career.

Appling and Jeff Davis County and Wayne and Long County Counselors were hosted.
