Locals Get Face Time with State Leaders
Camden County is farther away from Atlanta than any other Georgia county but our leaders are willing to go the extra mile to make sure that our state government understands what we are all about.
For the second year in a row, the Camden County Chamber of Commerce led an Atlanta Fly-in that included a delegation of local business, education and government representatives.
This week, they talked with Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal, Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and many of the key decision-makers who can help us move our issues forward.
One of the key issues was the construction of a new technical college campus in Camden to help enhance our workforce. Private land has been donated for the Altamaha Technical College campus and the project remains on the technical college system’s priority list. However, the state’s priorities are subject to change. Our community needs to make sure that key decision-makers understand this project and others are not just important to Camden, but to Georgia.
This approach is a departure from the way most communities lobby their state government for funding and assistance. While most ask what they state can do to help them, our representatives are emphasizing the assets that we have to offer.
Those who attended the fly-in, some at their own expense, are to be commended for their efforts.
They are making sure that our community is remembered by the state leaders who will decide which investments will have the greatest positive impact on the future of Georgia citizens.
We believe that the chamber delegation made a strong case that any investment in Camden County will pay huge dividends.
