Altamaha Technical College sponsors Manufacturing Appreciation Week design contest
The winning design for the 2011 Manufacturing Appreciation Week Design Contest for the high school category was created by Song Kang, an 11th grader at Union Grove High School in McDonough. Entries for the 2012 contest are due Feb. 3 to Altamaha Technical College.
JESUP, Ga. (Jan. 12, 2011) – Altamaha Technical College is now seeking entries from area students in the annual Manufacturing Appreciation Week Design Contest for elementary through high school students.
The contest is judged separately for each school level and scholarships up to $500 will be awarded to the top nine winning designers. Entries are due to the college by February 3.
“The contest is designed to promote awareness of the important role manufacturing plays in the economy of the State of Georgia in our elementary to high school students statewide,” said Georgia Quick Start representative Gary P. O’Donnell.
Manufacturing Appreciation Week is held April 16-20 and culminates in a Governor’s Awards Luncheon in Atlanta April 19. Manufacturing provides jobs for approximately 408,427 Georgians. The nearly 9,000 manufacturing facilities in Georgia are devoted to making products as diverse as textiles to automotive parts.
Entries in each category, with the top three placing at each school level, are judged on creativity, skill/quality of the artwork and the students’ grasp of manufacturing. The winning students will receive their awards at the luncheon.
