Altamaha Technical College voted top 15% of colleges  nationwide.  In Post-9/11 GI Bill era, list offers veterans guidance on which schools are doing the most to embrace them as students. Nov. 10, 2009 – G.I. Jobs announces the release of its 2010 list of Military Friendly Schools.

The list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and technical colleges in the nation which are doing the most to embrace America’s veterans as students. The common bond is their shared priority of recruiting students with military experience.

Colleges have long coveted veterans in the classroom. Dr. June McClain, Vice President of Academic Affairs of Altamaha Technical College shares some of reasons why Altamaha Technical College enjoys military students, “Students with a military experience are mature and have life experiences that are beneficial to any classroom environment.” “First let me say we are very honored to be selected as a military friendly school. Veterans provided national security and now Altamaha Technical College would like to help them secure a future. We want to continue to provide opportunities for veterans to integrate into the workforce by developing additional skills to support the military or as they move completely into civilian life,” said President Lorette Hoover, Altamaha Technical College. “For this reason,’ says Hoover, ‘the community is supporting the building of a new technical college campus in Camden County.” The plaque reads: “Altamaha Technical College has been selected as Military Friendly college for 2010. This honor places you in the top 15% of all colleges nationwide. Your steadfast commitment to education our great nation’s military veterans will enable the United States to prosper for generations to come.” To learn more about the services and programs available at Altamaha Technical College visit our website at www.altamahatech.edu, call toll free at 1-800-645-8284. The list was compiled through exhaustive research starting last May during which G.I. Jobs polled more than 7,000 schools nationwide. Methodology, criteria and weighting for the list were developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Committee (AAC) consisting of educators and administrators from Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Toledo, Duquesne University, Coastline Community College and Lincoln Technical Institute. A full story and detailed list of Military Friendly Schools will be highlighted in the annual Guide to Military Friendly Schools and on a poster, both of which will be distributed to hundreds of thousands of active and former military personnel in September. A new Web site, found at www.militaryfriendlyschools.com, will launch in September with interactive tools and search functionality to assist military veterans in choosing schools that best meet their educational needs. Criteria for making the Military Friendly Schools list included efforts to recruit and retain military and veteran students, results in recruiting military and veteran students and academic accreditations.
