Practical Nursing Students at ATC Receive Pins
JESUP, Ga. (Sept. 26, 2011) – Altamaha Technical College presented 100 percent of its 2011 Practical Nursing program students at the Golden Isles Campus with a commemorative rose and pin signifying the successful completion of their coursework Tuesday, September 20, 2011.
Ten students received roses and certificates by nursing instructors Bridget Atkins, R.N., and Peggy Christiana, R.N., and guest instructor Suzanne Corbitt, R.N., during the formal ceremony in Brunswick. Approximately 160 people were in attendance to celebrate these students’ achievement. Deborah Zito, PA-C, a physician’s assistant from Brunswick Pediatric Office, was the special guest speaker. During the ceremony, the students recited the Nightingale’s pledge, the nurse’s oath.
The ceremony commemorates the students’ successful completion of their nursing coursework and clinical rotations. Having completed their program of study, students have met the Georgia Board of Nursing requirements for a diploma in Practical Nursing and can take the NCLEX-PN board exam. The college has a strong history of success with nursing students passing the NCLEX-PN licensure test at a 100% pass rate last year. The class of nursing students may participate in the college’s January graduation ceremony. Altamaha Technical College graduates approximately 60 students in nursing yearly.
Several students received special awards during the ceremony: Most Professional, Irazine Marie Green; The Art of Caring Award, Nancy Hartley; and, Academic Excellence, Laura Strickland. Instructor Bridget Atkins gave out personality plaques to all of the students, acknowledging the special gifts and talents each student brought to their class. Students receiving pins are Jessica Bunn, Tiffany Cole, Selesia Flint, Irazine Marie Green, Nancy Hartley, Kerry Head, Rayna Leverett, Shannon Phillips, Laura Strickland, and Tina Stroud.
Altamaha Technical College offers Practical Nursing, Medical Assisting (Business & Services), Health Care Assistant, Paramedic Technology, Emergency Medical Technician, Patient Care Assisting and Patient Care Technician programs in its Health Occupations Division.
