Regional job fair set

Residents looking for a job in Glynn County will have one-stop shopping of sorts Thursday when the Georgia Department of Labor and Altamaha Technical College host a job and training fair with several major employers.
The college will host the fair from 3 to 6 p.m. at its Golden Isles Career Academy campus, 4404 Glynco Parkway.
For people like David Rice, vice president of human resources for Sea Island Co., which is seeking to hire about 100 people, the benefit of attending a job fair hosted by a technical college is twofold.
"First, we certainly see the students coming out of Atlamaha Tech with the skills we are looking for," Rice said.
The fair also gives Sea Island Co. a chance to meet local people who are looking for a job. "We always want to hire locally if we can," Rice said.
Cedric King, human resources director for Pinova, attends for similar reasons. "It gives us the ability to evaluate local talent," he said.
Job fairs also expose job candidates to the hiring process, King said.
Although Pinova is not actively looking for new employees, job fairs allow King to build a bank of resumes he can go to when it is time to hire.
Kelley Arnold, coordinator of institutional advancement for Altamaha Technical College, says learning the process and making quality contacts are among the benefits of a job fair.
The college's career coordinator and instructors from several programs will be on hand along with career counselors from the Department of Labor to help job seekers polish their resumes and interview skills.
"Put your suit on and get your high heels out," Arnold said. "This will be a great chance to get a foot in the door."
Arnold said response to the event has been good. "We are expecting a pretty big turnout. I think it will be in the hundreds."
