Satilla REMC Foundation contributes to Altamaha Technical College

JESUP, Ga. – Members of the Satilla REMC Foundation Board and EMC Board of Directors met with Altamaha Technical College (ATC) representatives Wednesday, December 21st, to award a $5,000 educational advancement contribution.

Funding for the donation was made possible through the voluntary contributions of the Members of Satilla REMC through the $MART Change Program.  Members elect to round up their electrical services bill to the next even dollar with the rounded-up change going into the Satilla REMC Foundation.

The purpose of the $5,000 educational advancement contribution was to get needed but unavailable funds into the technical colleges within the nine-county area that Satilla REMC serves and to enhance the educational process for as many students as possible.

Lorette Hoover, President of Altamaha Technical College, thanked the Members of Satilla REMC and those attending the presentation, including Satilla REMC Foundation Board Chairman Mickey Whittington, Satilla REMC Board of Directors Vice Chairman Hinson Mosley and Dr. Paul Scott, the Wayne County Director of Satilla REMC Foundation Board.

“Satilla REMC’s support is timely, needed, and certainly appreciated since the technical colleges of Georgia continue to wrestle the effects of local education budget cuts,” said President Hoover.  “The funds will be used to support student and program success through equipment purchases, student scholarships, and other technical program projects that advance the work of the college.”

Hoover also noted that the “Members of Satilla REMC have invested more than $75,000 toward the educational futures of students who attend Altamaha Technical College.”

Since 1999, Satilla REMC Members have given more than $848,000 to students through high-school scholarships, $MART Grants, endowed scholarships and capital funding contributions to technical colleges in our service area.

The Satilla REMC Foundation is proud to partner with Altamaha Technical College to provide additional educational opportunities to students attending technical colleges in Satilla’s nine-county service area.

Altamaha Technical College offers more than 80 degree, diploma and certificate programs at its locations in Baxley, Brunswick, Hazlehurst, Jesup and Kingsland. To learn more about registering for these programs, visit the college online at www.altamahatech.edu. Spring Semester begins Jan. 9, 2012.
