Buford elected treasurer of state technical college executive committee
JESUP, Ga. (December 5, 2011) – Altamaha Technical College Board of Director Ted Buford of Jesup has been elected to serve as treasurer of the state Technical College Director’s Association (TCDA) Executive Committee. It is also Buford’s first year serving on this statewide committee.
TCDA Director Adie Shimandle said Buford is a “valued addition” to the Executive Committee.
“In the position of Treasurer of the TCDA, he is responsible for the financial integrity of the organization. He reviews and approves the financials each month along with the Executive Committee President and attends all Executive Committee meetings,” said Shimandle.
From a local perspective, Altamaha Technical College President Lorette Hoover applauded Buford’s new position and knows he will be a wonderful representative of Altamaha Technical College and the local community.
Buford, a certified board member, was selected as a candidate for the position by the TCDA board of directors and elected by voting delegates from the state technical colleges during the leadership conference. One voting delegate represents each state technical college.
“Obtaining one’s certification is a badge of honor,” said Shimandle. “It’s not an easy process, yet Ted completed his certification in one year.”
Only certified board members are considered for candidacy of the executive committee. To become certified, the board member must complete a 16-step series of learning and action-driven skills workshops based on the technical college systems’ history, advisement, advocacy, financial and public relations. Buford is employed by the Department of Labor in Jesup.
The 2012 state TCDA executive committee and their representative colleges are Joe Gore of Oconee Fall Line Tech, past president; Stevan Crew of Chattahoochee Tech, president; Doug Meyer of Gwinnett Tech, vice president; Robert Chester of Albany Tech, secretary; Ben Richardson of Columbus Tech, member-at-large; and Judge Don Wilkes of Southeastern Tech, member-at-large. The mission of the (TCDA) is to build the capability of the technical colleges' boards of directors to effectively increase the real and perceived value of technical and adult education in Georgia through the association’s training & certification process.
