ATC Cosmetology Students Help “Give a Kid a Chance”
Altamaha Technical College Cosmetology students recently participated in the Give a Kid a Chance program, which was hosted by the Jesup Housing Authority along with House of Worship and Ministries.
The Give a Kid a Chance program is an outreach program that helps ease the financial burden of single parents with back-to-school preparations, which can be expensive and time consuming.
The ATC students, along with local cosmetologist, provided haircuts to more than 100 students preparing to return to school. “We were nervous at first when we saw so many kids, but it was a very rewarding experience,” said Cosmetology students, Latrelle Chapman and Marcia Stein.
According to ATC’s Cosmetology Instructor Bea Jackson, “We had a wonderful time. The House of Worship Staff along with Pine View Housing made great accommodations for such an event. We were able to do many haircuts, clipper cuts, blow drying, and curling. I was very impressed with the students, demonstrating every aspect of safety, professionalism and work ethics.”
The students were not only able to get some hands-on experience, but they had the opportunity to give back to their community. “I was happy to be a part of the Give a Kid a Chance program. It meant a lot to me to be able to come out on a Saturday to help these kids,” said junior cosmetology student Asia Stewarts.
