Altamaha Technical College Holds Spring Graduation Ceremony

208 graduates received their associates degrees, diplomas, certificates and GED’s during Altamaha Technical College’s spring graduation ceremony held on June 11, 2009. Two members of the college’s faculty and staff served as the color guard during the ceremony. Presenting the colors were 1st Sergeant, U.S. Army retired, James R. Tankersley and Chief Petty Officer, U.S. Navy retired, Larry Thompson. Cosmetology Instructor, Margaret Brunson led in singing the “Star Spangled Banner.” All students in attendance participated via receipt of their awards. The following students had a part in the program: Rose McKiver Grant, a Business and Office Technology graduate and Penny Hallman and Jennifer Coulter both graduates of the Licensed Practical Nursing Program.

The guest speaker for the evening was Ann R. Purcell, a state board member of the Technical College System of Georgia. Purcell began her speech by telling the graduates what a bright future they had ahead of them and how fortunate they are to be graduating from the best technical college in the state. Purcell is a published genealogist and an office manager for Radiation Therapy Associates, P.C. She is a former teacher and a real estate sales person. From 1991 until 2005 Purcell served as a representative in the Georgia State House of Representatives. She serves on the Effingham County Adult Education Advisory Committee, the Georgia Art Commission Policy Committee and is actively involved in many civic and community related activities.
During the ceremony, Lana Cooper, Local Board of Directors Vice Chairman, and Karla Eubanks, Vice President of Student Affairs, presented the academic awards to the graduates. Altamaha Technical College President Lorette M. Hoover and Vice President for Academic Affairs, June McClain, recognized honor graduates who had an overall GPA of at least 3.5, and President’s Scholastic Medal recipients, graduates who had an overall GPA of 4.0.
Retired Vice President of Academic Affairs Kirk Rivenbark served as Master of Ceremony.
