Altamaha Technical College wins Sandy Taylor Award
Jesup – Altamaha Technical College recently won the Sandy Taylor Membership Award for contributing to the continued growth of Georgia Collegiate DECA. DECA, an International Association of marketing students, provides members and advisors with development activities. Founded in 1946, the organization prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.
Students Cassie Ray, Shona Wilkins and Rose Grant, all from the Jesup Campus, attended their first DECA conference February 11-13 with DECA Advisors Cathy Montgomery, Tracy Brummett, and Chad Swanson. The award was presented at the conference and the students and Swanson assisted in judging for DECA Student of the Year. ATC’s DECA Chapter looks forward to increasing membership on all campuses as well as working and contributing to community charities and organizations.
Advisor Cathy Montgomery shared, “I am very proud of our students at ATC and the commitment that they have to student organizations and activities. This was a group effort to begin a new chapter of DECA on our campus and I am proud that our first conference was a success. We hope to have DECA on all campuses within the next year.”
The Collegiate Division of DECA (formerly known as Delta Epsilon Chi) includes over 15,000 members in 200 colleges and universities. It is A 501(c)(3) not-for-profit student organization with members in all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Canada, China, Germany, Guam, Hong Kong, Korea, Mexico and Puerto Rico. The United States Congress, The United States Department of Education and state, district and international departments of education authorize DECA’s programs.
