Five ATC STUDENTS NOMINATED FOR GOAL

Instructors at Altamaha Technical College have nominated 5 students for the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL), according to Cindy Brown, coordinator for the college’s GOAL program.  Chosen for recognition by their instructors are Danielle Smith, a Cosmetology student from Ludowici, Monica Spears, a Microcomputer Specialist student from Jesup, Ashley Murray, a Practical Nursing student from Jesup, Jessica Woods, a Practical Nursing student from Screven, and Shawna Morrison, a Practical Nursing student from Jesup.

The Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education sponsors the GOAL program at the state-level.  At the college-level, GOAL is sponsored by BB&T and the local Chamber of Commerces, including Appling County, Jeff Davis County, Long County, and Wayne County, and coordinated by officials from Altamaha Technical College.

"The purpose of the GOAL program," said Brown, "is to spotlight the importance of technical education in today's world of work and to recognize outstanding achievement by students in Georgia's technical colleges."

A Screening Committee of administrators and instructors at Altamaha Technical reviewed all the nominations and interviewed each of the students.  After ranking the nominees, the five of them will then compete for the title of Altamaha Technical College GOAL winner.

These five finalists were interviewed and evaluated by a selection committee of representatives from business and industry on Tuesday, March 13th.  The student judged most outstanding, which will be announce on Wednesday, April 4th, will be designated the college’s nominee for the title of state GOAL winner and will compete with representatives from the state's other technical colleges for the state award.

The winner of the state GOAL title, which is awarded for excellence in leadership and ability, will receive the GOAL medallion and the grand prize of new automobile.  The state winner’s college GOAL coordinator and the nominating instructor will receive a $250 check.
