Altamaha Technical College and Yancey Brothers Company began their partnership over two years ago with the Heavy Equipment Diesel Technology Certificate Program. On Thursday, September 13th, a large crowd gathered in Hazlehurst at the Big House, where Altamaha Technical College’s Culinary Arts Program is housed, to observe the second class of graduates in this program.  Students, with supporting family and friends, traveled from four counties in the area to receive their certificates.

Graduates were: Mathew Balance - Ludowici, Russell Cain – Ludowici, Dustin Johnson – Nichols, Thomas O’Quinn – Odum, and Nickolas Sanders – Sylvania.

Jeff Cornwell, Yancey Bros. Co. Recruiter, brought comments and well wishes to the graduates.  According to Mr. Cornwell, “we are impressed with how much these young men have grown over the past year and feel that the growth is a true reflection of the time, effort, and training put in by their instructor, Albert Wildes.”   Wildes also commented on the dedication exhibited by each one of his students.   The evening’s events included a spectacular meal prepared by culinary arts instructor Chef Jennifer Evans and dual enrollment students from Jeff Davis High School. After 10 months of training, each of these graduates completed a six week paid internship at one of Yancey Brothers Company’s Caterpillar® dealerships.  The graduates will now be offered a job with Yancey Bros. as a Level 1 Technician, with an opportunity to work their way up to a Level 6 Technician in only six years.  “I think this is a very exciting opportunity for someone interested in a career with built in levels of advancement.  We are fortunate to have a company like Yancey Bros. partner with Altamaha Technical College,” commented Wildes.    A new class of seventeen students began on August 20th at the Heavy Equipment Training Center located on US# 1 South in Baxley.  For more information about the program please call (912) 367-1764 or (912) 367-1700.
