ATC Held Pinning for Practical Nursing Students

Jesup – Twenty two nursing students received their pins at a formal ceremony in December on the Jesup campus.  Michael Altman of Hospice of South Georgia and Amedisys Home Health was the guest speaker for the pinning.  The ceremony commemorates the students’ successful completion of their nursing coursework and clinical rotations.  Having completed their program of study, graduates have met the Georgia Board of Nursing requirements for a diploma in Practical Nursing and can take the NCLEX-PN board exam. The college has a strong history of success with nursing students passing the NCLEX-PN licensure test at a 100% pass rate last year. According to Betty Manning, Nursing Instructor, “Five graduates have already taken the exam and all have passed.”

At the ceremony, each student received their pin and class flower from the nursing faculty. The formal ceremony includes candle lighting and the recitation of the Nightingale’s pledge, the nursing oath. “It’s a wonderful tradition,” says Nursing Instructor Dailene McDaniel. “Our students really appreciate the opportunity to celebrate their achievement with friends and family.”  The class of nursing students may participate in the college’s January graduation ceremony.  Altamaha Technical College graduates 50 students in nursing yearly.

Special student recognition awards were presented:  The Business and Professional Women’s Club Professional Award, Candice Collins; Shirley G. Davis Clinical Award,  Alyssa N. Denison; Kiwanis Scholastic Achievement Award, Candice Collins; Elwanda Carter Perfect Attendance Award, Orlandria E. Austin, Teresa L. Crane, Carla Britt, and Tami N. Altman; Jones Healthcare True Heart of Nursing Award,  Tiffany Drawdy and Alyssa N. Denison; Wayne County EMS Recognition, Kristin Burch; and Air Evac Lifeteam Recognition, Carla Britt.  Honor graduates were Ashley Chadwick, Candice Collins and Tiffany Brooke Drawdy.
