ATC Hires New Instructor
Altamaha Technical College is pleased to announce the addition of its latest faculty member, Brad Powell. Powell is the new instructor for the Industrial Systems Technology program on the Hazlehurst campus. He began employment with ATC a few months ago after 16 years of experience in private industry.
After completing his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering Technology from Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, GA in 1991, Powell began his career at Alco Controls in Hazlehurst. He started as a Manufacturing Engineer and 10 years later was promoted to Lean Coordinator for the Hazlehurst facility.
In 2002, Powell accepted a position as Manufacturing Engineer with Electrolux Home Products in McRae, GA. He remained there until his move to ATC. At ATC, he is able share his skills and knowledge of the field and train others to work in the profession. “Being a Manufacturing Engineer gives you a wide variety of experience of the manufacturing process, whether it’s building filter driers for the refrigeration industry or lawn movers for the outdoor market. My years of experience have given me a wealth of knowledge that I hope to relay to my students and better prepare them for today’s industry needs,” says Powell.
Powell also understands the importance of updating his skills through training and education. He is currently in the process of earning his Masters of Technology degree in Industrial Management from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro.
When asked about his time at ATC so far, Powell answered, “I really enjoy working at ATC. Everyone I've met has been real encouraging and patient answering all of my questions. The Hazlehurst staff welcomed me whole heartedly and made my transition from industry to education easier than I ever expected.”
