ATC Welcomes New Employees

gail-mcquaigGail McQuaig recently began as ATC’s Early Childhood Care and Education Instructor.  She brings many years of hands-on experience from working in the field and in the classroom to ATC. She began her education at South Georgia College in Douglas where she earned her Associate of Science degree.  She then attended Valdosta State University and earned her Masters and Bachelor of Science degrees in Early Childhood Education.  Upon finishing college, McQuaig spent five years working with the Division of Aging in Waycross.  There she was a Lead Case Manager and coordinated at home services for children and adults who were terminally ill.  She then went to work for Metal Health as the Director for Eagles Landing in Waycross, and spent the next six years working with Severely Emotionally Disturbed (SED) children.  After 11 years of working in the field, McQuaig decided to use her education degrees and experience and work in the classroom.  She spent the next six years at Center Elementary in Waycross where she taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders and worked with EIP (Education Improvement Program).  With EIP McQuaig worked with special needs students individually.  She claims “I really like working with these children best.”  McQuaig then decided that she wanted to work within adult education.  “I’ve always wanted to teach adults, and I wanted to share my experiences from the classroom and the mental health field,” she exclaims.  McQuaig began as ATC’s Early Childhood Care and Education instructor at the beginning of the year.  “It has been different, but fun and I’ve really enjoyed it here at ATC.”

Lynne Groover, ATC’s newest Math Instructor, has over 17 yelynn-grooverars of teaching experience in mathematics education.  Though she has taught high school and middle school mathematics, Groover’s emphasis over the years has always been post-secondary education with over 12 years of experience on the college level.  “I love teaching and I love mathematics,” states Groover.  “I hope I bring a passion and love of the subject to the classroom as well as a working knowledge that I can effectively convey to my students.  Also, though I have never taught at a technical college, I feel my experience in the university system has prepared me for the wide variety of math course offered here at ATC.”  Groover’s education experience includes a Master of Education in Mathematics Education and her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education, both from Georgia Southern University.  Also, she holds an Associate of Science in Mathematics from Abraham Baldwin College.  When asked about her first quarter at ATC, Groover commented, “The faculty and staff have been so friendly and the students have been great too.  I have really enjoyed my first quarter.”

rebecca-sharpeRebecca Sharpe is ATC’s new English Instructor.  She began her career in higher education at Union College in Kentucky as an Adult Education Learning Support Center Director.  She then became Assistant Director of Student Support Services at Union College, where, in addition, she taught reading.  Next, Sharpe worked at Middle Tennessee State University as Grant Administrator and adjunct English Instructor for five years.  For the past four years, she served as English instructor and Department Chair for Arts and Sciences at Griffin Technical College.  Sharpe’s education includes 12 Doctoral hours from Middle Tennessee University in Higher Education Administration, Master of Arts in Education from Union College, a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Arkansas, and an Associate of Arts in Education from Brewton Parker College.  When asked about her time at ATC so far, Sharpe stated, “I am really enjoying working at ATC.  I have worked in the private college, and the traditional university, as well as the technical college environment, and I have found that working in the technical college setting to be the most rewarding.  It is a privilege to teach students who are focused, dedicated and hard-working.”

Altamaha Technical College is excited to announce the addition of two new staff members to the Jesup campus. Tracy Evans, New Connections to Work Coordinator, and Sandra Williams, Director of Adult Literacy, joined the ATC family this month.

tracy-evansEvans joins us from one of our sister colleges, Okefenokee Technical College, where she served as their New Connections to Work Coordinator for over two years.  She also has an additional two years experience working with the Department of Family and Child Services in Waycross.  Evans attended the University of Georgia where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics.  On working with ATC Evans said, “Prior to employment with Altamaha Technical College, I was given the opportunity to visit the campus.  As a visitor, I was welcomed with such genuine hospitality that making the decision to come onboard was easy.”   New Connections to Work is a service available to the community that provides training, support services, and life management skills workshops for single parents, displaces homemakers, and single pregnant women.  Additionally, through The Department of Human Resources, the program serves people who are in transition to becoming economically self-sufficient.  For additional information you can contact Evans at 912-427-5861 or via email at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
