On Monday, April 21st Congressman Jack Kingston was in Jesup along with USDA Rural Development Director Stone Workman to present Altamaha Technical College with a $65,000 check from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The money was used to purchase two CDL trucks and trailers for Altamaha Technical College’s Commercial Truck Driving Program.

College President Lorette M. Hoover said the demand for skilled truckers is hard to keep up with in this area, especially since the port in Brunswick began to expand.  “We have really been inundated with not just students but request from employers for truck drivers,” Hoover said.  “We have had 100 percent placement of our commercial truck driving graduates for the last 15 years.”

For more information about The Commercial Truck Driving Program call 888-755-2832.  The next class is scheduled to start July 9th at the Baxley Campus.

Special Thanks - Eleven employees were recognized by President Lorette M. Hoover for giving to Altamaha Technical College’s Foundation, Inc. for the past year.  “All of these employees gave from the heart, not because they were asked, but because they knew it was the right thing to do.  They know that their financial investment goes toward improving the lives of our students and improving the quality of instruction.” stated President Hoover.   The Foundation, Inc. has currently raised $195,394.75 so far this fiscal year and is planning for an annual giving campaign this fall through state charitable contributions, and plans to conduct a fund raising event during fall or winter quarter.
